GE smart grid to Ireland and Northern Ireland

Smart grid technology could help Ireland and Northern Ireland to up its use of renewable energy, according to GE Energy.

“With Ireland expecting a 60% increase in energy demand by 2025, action needs to be taken now to increase energy efficiency, control demand and add renewable generation to the electrical grid,” says Bob Gilligan, Vice President Digital Energy for GE Energy Services.

Ireland and Northern Ireland has extensive offshore marine territory, and their coastlines are among the best for offshore wind, wave and tidal energy.

104 jobs in Northern Ireland

GE Energy will expand its smart grid solutions operations in Northern Ireland adding 104 ‘clean energy’ jobs.

GE Energy says this will help its plans to “modernise the world’s electric grid while maximising the reliability, efficiency and usable life of the infrastructure already in place.”
