Applied Materials’ Singapore facility has 400 kWp solar system

Applied Materials’ new Singapore facility for manufacturing semiconductor equipment, features a 400 kWp solar thin-film system.

The 32,000 m2 centre will serve as a hub for Applied Materials’ semiconductor equipment manufacturing around the world, as well as support its supply chain operations.

Mike Splinter, Chairman and CEO of Applied Materials, says: “With more than 70% of our semiconductor business in Asia, we expect 50% of our global semiconductor equipment supply to flow through this centre in the next few years as we consolidate key parts of our manufacturing and various global and pan-Asian support functions here.

Thin-film solar system

The 400 kWp, 5.7 m2 thin-film solar system supplied by Phoenix Solar, will generate 450 MWh of electricity. Phoenix Solar is one of Applied Materials’ SunFab Thin Film Line customers.

Christophe Inglin, Managing Director at Phoenix Solar Pte Ltd, says: “At approximately 105 kg and yet only 8 mm thick, handling and installing these modules on the roof was a challenge.”

The thin-film solar system was installed over a few weeks.
