LM Glasfiber opens wind turbine blade facility in China

LM Glasfiber is setting up a fourth wind turbine blade facility in Jiangyin, China, following a contract with Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Envision for 2 GW worth of wind turbine blades.

Production will start during the second quarter of 2010.

New wind turbine blade concept

The Envision contract marks one of the first contracts based on LM Glasfiber’s new wind turbine blade concept, GloBlade® for 1.5 MW wind turbines.

The new wind turbine blade concept could increase annual energy production by 4-5% over 40.3 blades fooling aerodynamic design adjustments.

Ian Telford, VP Sales and Marketing of LM Glasfiber, says: "With this agreement we further strengthen our foothold in China and secure our continued growth in this strategically important market. We again prove our leadership within rotor blade design as we bring the first series of GloBlades to the market.

“This innovative concept, with highly efficient blades that set new standards for cost of energy from wind, will not only increase our market share in China but expand the potential wind market into lower wind areas across the world."
