Work commence on Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm

North Midland Construction project at Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm to bring green energy to 410,000 homes

The civil engineering division of leading engineering and specialist contractor, North Midland Construction PLC (NM Group), has begun work on a £4m project as part of the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm scheme in Norfolk on behalf of Siemens.

The wind farm, which is expected to provide ‘green’ power to over 410,000 homes, will comprise 67 Siemens 6MW wind turbine generators. 24 miles of cable from the turbines to the sea bed are being laid as well as a further 45 miles of underground cabling to a new substation in Necton, Norfolk. NM Group’s work on the scheme includes steel-framed and clad building, the erection of fencing and bunding, the installation of drainage and work on the foundations.

John Hatton, general manager of NM Group’s civil engineering division, said: “We are extremely pleased to have secured this high-profile scheme as it reflects our commitment to expanding our portfolio of civil engineering projects. We continue to build on our successes within the power sector and plan to expand on existing relationships with partners like Siemens.”

The Wind Farm scheme is being operated by Statoil, a Norwegian-based international energy company and it is anticipated that work will be completed in June 2016.
