Black & Veatch expands relationship with Tesla to include energy storage systems

Energy storage experts to support Tesla Energy Storage for commercial applications.

Black & Veatch has expanded its relationship with Tesla Motors to include energy storage services. Black & Veatch provides design, engineering and construction services for large-scale commercial, industrial and municipal facilities using Tesla Energy Storage products.

“Tesla energy storage can improve and balance grid operations by providing energy to manage changes in demand -- it also allows for higher levels of renewable energy integration,” said Martin Travers, president of Black & Veatch’s telecommunications business and leader of its Smart Integrated Infrastructure (SII) service offering. “Black & Veatch is proud to be a key supplier of engineering and construction services for Tesla as they work to transform the energy sector.”

Black & Veatch’s SII team has designed more than 24MW of behind-the-meter stationary capacity at more than 20 commercial and industrial facilities in support of Tesla’s energy storage initiative. More than 10 MW of capacity is already complete and available to reduce building peak loads.

Black & Veatch is actively engaged in the planning stage for development of several other utility scale stationary storage systems. The company leverages its distributed infrastructure, power generation, transmission, and storage technology expertise to meet the needs of a decentralized, yet highly interconnected energy supply system.

“We have designed the installation of Tesla energy storage systems at several Black & Veatch constructed Supercharger station locations as well,” said Rick Azer, director of development, smart integrated infrastructure for Black & Veatch. “These systems provide advanced energy control capabilities for these sites.”
