Lightsource dedicates £125 Million toward UK solar rooftop development in 2015

With move, Lightsource is firmly on track to become the first solar company to reach a 1 GW operational portfolio of assets in the UK.

Lightsource Renewable Energy officially affirms its commitment towards UK rooftop solar PV deployment by announcing a dedicated investment of over £125 Million for 2015. This £125 Million will be allocated to rooftop solar projects in the UK with an overall ambition of delivering 120 MW to include commercial buildings, schools, households and social housing.

According to Nick Boyle, CEO of Lightsoure Renewable Energy, the company has established deployed more than £1.5 Billion in just four years. What's more, Lightsource is firmly on track to become the first solar company to reach a 1 Gigawatt operational portfolio of assets in the UK by the end of March 2015.

“Over the last few months, Lightsource has worked persistently to address the barriers to rooftop solar deployment," Boyle said. "The biggest breakthrough has been our mid-scale solar power purchase agreement which is praised for its simplicity by end users and installers alike. This has enabled a significant pipeline to emerge and therefore we are able to affirm our commitment of £125 Million, allocated specifically towards rooftop solar projects.

Now that Lightsource Renewable Energy has allocated the funds, relationships with installers will be key in realising its goal. To that end, Lightsource plans to seek out partnerships and work with local supply chains. According to Boyle, 30 installer firms have already signed on as partners.
