3sun Group secures marine energy deal with Statoil

Million pound contract entails construction of anode assembles for deployment to the seabed near offshore wind turbine farm.

The £1million, six-month contract awarded to 3sun Group will be based within the Outer Harbour of East Port, Great Yarmouth, and marks the first time 3sun Group has worked with Statoil and supported on a major project for the marine sector.

Under the terms of the deal, 3sun Group will take a lead role on the project, assembling anodes onto specialist frames designed to be used to transport assembles offshore for deployment to the seabed around each of the 88 wind turbine foundations on the Sheringham Shoal wind farm, located 21KM off the North Norfolk coast, UK .

“This is a significant contract win for the Group and a real coup," said Stuart Brand, 3sun Group operations director. "We are delighted to establish a working relationship with Statoil through this project, and we look forward to continuing to support the company in the future as it grows its operations within the UK and Europe within the energy sector."

3sun Group will be working alongside oilfield support services company ASCO, which will provide logistic support in the unloading of the supply vessels from Norway. ASCO will also support the subsequent load out to the installation vessels, with the job involving more than 6000 lifting operations.

Glenn Hurren, regional director, ASCO SNS Logistics, welcomes the opportunity to work with 3sun Group for the first time by providing quayside support on the renewables project. “We look forward to a long-term, successful working relationship, with 3un Group as we jointly develop our offshore renewables offering to the UK’s wind farm operators and turbine suppliers," he said.

The UK Government last year announced a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the country's position in the UK's offshore wind power industry.
