SolarWorld supplies solar PV modules to Air Force base in Colorado

SolarWorld is supplying 5000 of its 220/230 W solar photovoltaic (PV) modules for a 1.2 MW solar power plant at an Air Force base in Aurora, Colorado, USA.

SolarWorld is working with project manager AMEC and partner SolSource on a contract to supply Sunmodules to the US Department of Defense (DoD) for construction of the 1.2 MW solar power plant at Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado.

SolarWorld says that "virtually all raw materials and components [for the solar modules] are produced in the United States."

According to SolarWorld, the USA is the third largest sales region for solar power technology.

“As of the fourth quarter of 2009, the public funding of solar power is expected to come to the fore,” says Chairman and CEO Frank H. Asbeck. “With our sites in the USA, we are excellently prepared for the expected positive development in the US market.”

SolarWorld is currently expanding its production sites in the USA. Asbeck says SolarWorld will have a production capacity of 500 MW each in solar PV wafer and cell production.
