Sputnik Engineering (SolarMax) expands operations in Chile

SolarMax expects PV projects will approach a total capacity of nearly 1MW by the end of the first quarter.

Recently SolarMax finished a hybrid system which allows a switch to batteries or a diesel generator in the cases of high energy use or low solar irradiation. The 3kW project was realised by the Chilean engineering firm Nahuenco and is located in Curacavi, which belongs to the metropolitan area of Santiago de Chile.

Currently SolarMax is realising a solar irrigation system together with the EPC company iEnergía. A PV plant with a capacity of 410 kW will primarily deliver the power for the use of electric drive pumps for irrigation of agricultural fields and additionally feeds the current into the grid. The system is equipped with 1,440 solar modules as well as with 24 SolarMax 15MT2 inverters.

According to Sputnik Engineering, Chile represents an ideal market for PV projects, given the country's high solar irradiation and huge surface availability, especially in the Atacama desert.
