Owens Corning, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, or NYSERDA, and Constellation recently completed a 2.7-MW solar generation project at Owens Corning’s thermal and acoustical insulation plant. The solar project is the largest to date under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY-Sun initiative, and could supply roughly 6 percent of the plant’s electricity.

Constellation financed, built, owns and maintains the ground-mounted PV system, which is composed of  approximately 9,000 panels located on more than nine acres.

Electricity generated by the system will be purchased by Owens Corning under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation.

Frank O’Brien-Bernini, vice president and chief sustainability officer for Owens Corning, said: "This solar project represents our continuing efforts to implement programs that advance our 2020 Environmental Footprint Goals.

John B. Rhodes, president and CEO for NYSERDA, called the Owens Corning large-scale solar project a "great example" of how public-private partnerships are changing the landscape of New York's clean-energy economy.

National Grid, the utility serving the Feura Bush plant, previously awarded Owens Corning nearly $1 million in energy efficiency grants to help reduce its energy usage and carbon footprint.
