Upsolar completes 1.5MW PV project in Greece

Upsolar has announced the completion of a 1.5MW solar electric system in Kozani, capital of the West Macedonia region in Greece. It marks the first installation in the region completed by Upsolar’s Project Development Department.

The ground-mounted solar PV power project comprises three 500kW systems and more than 6500 UP-M230P polycrystalline modules. The systems were built by engineering, procurement and construction firms Sun El A.E. and Gortys Ltd.

“In the current economic climate, securing the funding necessary for a project of this size is extremely difficult,” said Sébastien Prioux, Project Development Director for Upsolar Group. Upsolar first entered the Greek market in 2010 and has since shipped more than 68 MW of modules to the region. For the Kozani project, it managed to accessed local incentives made available by the Greek government to promote adoption of renewable energy across the region.

“Thanks to the hard work of our partners, we were able to quickly complete this project and begin supplying clean power to the local grid,” said Ioannis Markatatos, Country Manager for Upsolar Greece.
