ABB wins Greek solar inverter contracts

ABB in Greece has been awarded contracts to supply solar inverters for around 33MW of solar power in different projects across mainland Greece – all of which are due to be commissioned in the coming months.

ABB will supply 500 and 630kW central inverters to several ground-mounted PV power plants, ranging in size from 100kW to 5.9MW. The majority, however are rated approximately 500kW.

In addition to the central inverters, ABB will also supply medium voltage transformers and switchgear for “efficient and secure” medium voltage grid connection. For 18 MW of these projects, ABB will also deliver the housings for the inverters and medium voltage equipment.

“Our solar inverter offering is complemented with a broad range of ABB’s high quality medium voltage transformers and grid connection equipment suitable specifically for PV power plants,” said Manolis Antipas, manager of one of ABB’s Greek divisions. “This, together with ABB’s local capabilities, gives the customer a real one-stop-buying advantage that has proven its value in the dynamic and fast paced PV business.”

He adds: “The high efficiency and easy to maintain industrial design of our central inverters, in addition to ABB’s local technical support were one of the important aspects of why ABB was selected as the inverter supplier. I expect there to be continuation of projects in near future.”

The ABB central inverter series, rated from 100 to 630 kW, is designed for multi-MW PV power plants as well as large and medium sized installations on commercial and industrial buildings.

With the central inverter’s certification as well as advanced and flexible grid support functions, it is possible to meet all applicable network connection requirements, regardless of where the project is located, ABB claims.
