China is among the biggest importers of waste in the world, causing a detrimental impact of landfill – 18 million tonnes of commercial waste alone is currently lying dumped along the banks of the Yangtze River.

The delegation, which included the Chinese Government's Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, were reportedly “very excited” to see PREL’s technology allow the processing of 80 tonnes of waste per hour to create renewable energy.

PREL is currently awaiting approval from the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Miliband, for its Energy Park which includes an advanced mechanical recycling facility, energy conversion in the form of biomass gasification and a plasma enhanced melter.
