GE Wind to supply turbines for 22MW wind farm in Mexico

GE Wind is supplying eight 2.75MW turbines for a wind project in Santa Catarina, Mexico.

The 22MW wind farm is being built by Mexican hydroelectric developer Comexhidro and funded by Conduit Capital Partners. The electricity generated will be used for public lighting in the municipality of Santa Catarina, Nuevo León.

GE Wind announced the project at its Mexico Wind Energy Forum, where civic and industry leaders discussed the opportunities and challenges of wind power in Mexico. "This project is a breakthrough for the country,” said Héctor Villegas, sales director of GE’s renewable energy business in Mexico.

“It supports the government’s commitment to increase investment in research and infrastructure and encourage private investors to produce clean energy and help reverse the effects of climate change,” he added. The Mexican Wind Energy Association estimates the country’s wind energy potential at more than 50GW.
