The wind farm, in the district of Western-Pomerania in northeast Poland, was developed and constructed by Spanish firm Gamesa. The commissioning of the Krzecin project takes RWE Innogy’s Polish wind energy portfolio to an installed capacity of 122MW.

The company is aiming for an operating capacity of 300MW by 2015 in Poland, says Dr. Hans Bünting, CEO of RWE Innogy. “Onshore wind power makes a significant contribution to the expansion of renewable energies in Poland, not least as a result of the excellent wind power locations and the attractive business environment,” he said.

The Krzecin wind farm comprises seven Gamesa G90 2MW turbines. With a hub height of 100m and a rotor diameter of 90m, the turbines can produce some 30,000MWh of electricity a year, or enough to power over 15,000 households in Poland.

The project is RWE Innogy’s fourth operating wind farm in Poland, with the others being Suwalki (41MW), Tychowo (35MW) and Piecki (32MW). A fifth project, the 39MW Nowy Staw wind farm, is also under construction, with commissioning planned for the beginning of 2013.

For Gamesa, the agreement reinforces its  wind farm development and sale business in Eastern Europe, the company says. In Poland, where it has sold multiple wind energy developments in recent months, it had a pipeline of 800MW by the end of the first quarter of 2012. The Polish facilities, coupled with those of Romania and Bulgaria, bring the portfolio managed by Gamesa in Eastern Europe to 2550MW.
