Vestas signs contracts for 206 MW of wind in Italy and the USA

Vestas will supply 56 MW of wind turbines for a wind farm in the Apulia region in Italy, and 150 MW for an undisclosed project in the USA.

By Kari Williamson

The Italian order is for 28 of Vestas' V90-2.0 MW wind turbines for the Castellaneta wind farm. The customer is Tozzi TRE S.p.A. a company of the Tozzi Holding Group that develops and manages renewable energy generating plants.

Delivery of the first wind turbines is expected to start during the second quarter of 2012 and the project is expected to be commercially operational before the end of 2012.

"It is a pleasure for us to announce the first order received from Tozzi TRE S.p.A. and we look forward to a fruitful cooperation in the future," says Rainer Karan, Managing Director of Vestas Italia. "There is still a great potential for further development across Italy, which can bring green renewable energy, as well as employment and economic benefits to local communities."

The Castellaneta wind farm is expected to produce approximately 162 GWh per year.

US order

The 150 MW order in the USA is for an undisclosed customer and undisclosed wind farm project.

Vestas says the contract is supply only, and that the wind turbines will be delivered in the second half of 2012.
