Goal of 50% UK content in UK wind farms

At a meeting of the Offshore Developers Forum, co-chaired by Department of Energy and Climate Change Minister Charles Hendry, it has been put forward that UK firms should provide more than 50% of the content of future wind farms.

There are already some developments on that point, with Robin Rigg offshore wind farm boasting 32% UK content.

DECC says the announcement reflects recent developments in the UK’s offshore wind supply chain, such as Siemens announcement in December that it is moving forward with a wind turbine manufacturing plant in Hull.

In January the Port of Sheerness submitted a planning application for the development of the manufacturing facility proposed by Vestas.

Furthermore, Gamesa has announced its intention to make the UK the main focus of their worldwide offshore wind business.
