The ‘New Energy Lab’ for Qatar University is a complete energy system for conveying practical knowledge in the fields of energy generation, storage, and management.
The Heliocentris system combines energy generation from solar, wind, and fuel cells with energy storage in batteries and hydrogen technology, to simulate an autonomous hybrid energy system for the university. The price of the system is in excess of €100 000.
Qatar University is the largest and best known higher education institution in Qatar. The order was commissioned by its Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, as part of creating a complete research laboratory for renewable energies.
The setting up of complex renewable energy labs is emerging as a global trend, and Heliocentris – with its educational (Didactic) business unit and more than 10 years’ experience – is one of the leading companies worldwide in this segment.
Heliocentris’ Didactic business unit has an extensive portfolio of training and research systems for fuel cells and hydrogen, as well as other renewable energy technologies.
‘We already have clients in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen who can vouch for the quality of our products and technology,’ says Dr Andras Gosztonyi, CFO of Heliocentris Energy Solutions. ‘This new order for Qatar will enable us to further expand our position in the Middle East.’
Gosztonyi adds that a decisive step in its drive to expand in the Middle East is the equity participation in Heliocentris of the National Technology Enterprises Company (NTEC), a fully owned subsidiary of the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA).
Heliocentris is currently setting up an office in Dubai. This will enable it to efficiently implement larger projects in the region, particularly in energy efficiency and autonomous power.
Heliocentris recently took over Munich-based P21 GmbH, which subsequently secured a €100 000 order for a monitoring and data acquisition system, as part of a scientific PV systems testing platform at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research.
