'Wireless' solar power

G24 Innovations (G24i) and Skyco Shading Systems Inc will install a wireless shade system powered by G25i's Gen-3 indoor solar technology in over 8000 windows for a global hotel chain.

G24i's technology utilises thin-film dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSCs) on a flexible substrate, which can be used indoors, as well as outdoors.

G24i says its indoor solar power technology could save the project US$3 million in installation costs by eliminating the need for the tens of miles of hard wire, in addition to eliminating the impact to operation and lost revenue caused by the in-wiring process.

Chief Operating Officer at G24i, Richard Costello, comments: “The project represents a dawn of a new era for the solar industry with the creation of indoor applications that do not require government subsidies, while also delivering substantial savings to the building owner.”
