RWE Innogy opens 16 MW Italian wind farm

RWE Innogy and FRI-EL Green Power have commissioned the 16 MW, €26 million Anzi wind farm in southern Italy.

By Kari Williamson

Anzi wind farm, which is RWE Innogy's third onshore wind farm in Italy, is situated 1100 m above sea level in Basilicata.

The 8 wind turbines from Vestas are expected to have an annual production of 31 GWh.

“Our aim is not only to compose a portfolio along technology lines, but also geographically, for example in order to accommodate a wide range of weather conditions. That’s why we intend to increase our capacity also in Italy still further, where our output - with the commissioning of Anzi - already comes to 67 MW. In Italy we are focusing on wind and biomass as sources of energy, in both cases together with our Italian partner FRI-EL Green Power,” says Hans Bünting, CFO at RWE Innogy.

RWE Innogy entered into partnership with the Italian designer and operator of renewable energy power plants, FRI-EL Green Power S.p.A., in 2008 via its local subsidiary RWE Innogy Italia S.p.A.

Italy had 5.8 GW of installed wind power at the end of 2010, and the Government aims to have 12 GW by 2020.
