First Solar deliver 100 MW of thin-film modules to India

First Solar will deliver 100 MW of its thin-film solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to Reliance Power for a project near Mumbai, India.

The first 40 MW thin-film solar modules will be delivered by the end of 2011 for Reliance's solar power project in Jaisalmer, which will supply renewable electricity to Mumbai, India.

The delivery of the remaining 60 MW is expected be completed in 2012. The agreement is First Solar's largest PV module supply agreement in India to date.

Jim Brown, President of First Solar's Utility Systems Business Group, says: "With strong growth projections, India is expected to become one of the world's major solar markets, due to its abundant solar resource and significant energy demand. This agreement with Reliance Power continues First Solar's momentum in India, helping develop the country's long-term, sustainable solar market.”

Ex-Im support

The US Export-Import Bank has approved a US$84.3 million direct loan on to Reliance Power's Dahanu Solar Power Pvt. unit to purchase the First Solar thin-film panels for the first 40 MW of the project.
