EU PVSEC: Oerlikon wins Solar Industry Award three years in a row

Oerlikon Solar has won the Solar Industry Award in the category Thin Film Innovations for the third time at this year's EU PVSEC in Hamburg, Germany.

By Kari Williamson

Oerlikon Solar received the award from the magazine Solar PV Management for its ThinFab production line for thin-film solar photovoltaics (PV).

“The presentation of the Solar Industry Award 2011 for our ThinFab fills us with pride, and in addition to the sale of our first 120 MW Micromorph production line in Asia, confirms the high level of acceptance and innovative strength of our thin-film silicon solar technology,” says Helmut Frankenberger, CEO of Oerlikon Solar.

ThinFab enables the mass production of thin-film solar PV modules and is said to reduce the total cost of ownership for solar modules to €0.50/Wp. Oerlikon Solar also says it uses the least amount of energy in the industry compared to other thin-film manufacturing processes.

“Winning the Solar Industry Award for the third time has confirmed our investments in research and development, and our pioneering position in the field of thin-film technology,” concludes Oerlikon Solar's Head of Sales and Marketing, Peter Tinner.
