Vestas to supply turbines to Brazil

The 90 MW order comprises 10 of the company's V90-3.0 MW machines, and 30 units of the V100-2.0 MW.

Vestas says the order will see them supply the turbines to São Pedro do Lago, Pedra Branca and Sete Gameleiras wind parks, all located in Bahia in Brazil.

The State of Bahia has a huge wind potential, and according to Vestas, the areas surrounding the São Francisco River has both "outstanding wind and grid connection conditions".

The order has been placed by a consortium created by Brennand Energia and Companhia Hidro Elétrica do São Francisco (CHESF), which works with local farmers in the semi-desertic area.

Delivery of the turbines is expected to start in the first half of 2012 and the project is expected to be commercially operational in December 2012.

As of 31 December 2010, Vestas had delivered 200 MW worth of turbines to Brazil.
