Alstom-led consortium builds hydropower plant in India

An Alstom-led consortium has won a contract worth over €285 million to construct a variable speed pumped storage hydropower plant in India.

Alstom, in consortium with Hindustan Construction Company, will install a 1 GW variable speed pumped storage hydropower plant for Tehri Hydro Development Corporation on the river Bhagirathi in Uttarakhand, India.

The plant will be the country’s first pumped storage hydropower plant to employ variable speed technology.

Alstom will provide four 250 MW variable speed turbine and generator units. It will also supply main inlet valves, control and protection systems for the hydropower plant.
