ITM Power reports first sale of HFuel hydrogen production module

In the UK, ITM Power has announced the sale of its first small-scale bespoke hydrogen production system, to the University of Glamorgan, under a competitive tender process.

The proton-exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer system will supply around 4 kg of hydrogen per day, based on ITM Power’s HFuel© product platform.

The ITM Power system will be integrated into the University of Glamorgan’s existing hydrogen dispensing system at its Renewable Hydrogen Research and Development Centre, at the Baglan Energy Park in south Wales.

The unit will be installed and commissioned by ITM Power staff, and includes onboard telemetry to allow its performance to be monitored remotely from the company’s production facility in Sheffield.

ITM Power will also give ongoing support to the University of Glamorgan to develop its renewable hydrogen system, incorporating the company’s electrolyzer and possible future capacity upgrades to the system.

Dr Graham Cooley, CEO of ITM Power, says that this sale will allow ITM Power to gain valuable experience in integrating its technology with third-party systems operating in real-world applications.

Last month ITM Power launched its Hydrogen On Site Trial (HOST) program, comprising an HFuel hydrogen generator and two hydrogen internal combustion engine vans, with a event at its inaugural partner, Stansted Airport. The HFuel unit and the vans will be operated in a week-long trial at each of the other 20 initial HOST partners.
