EWEA 2011: 4.1 MW GE offshore wind turbine

GE introduced a 4.1 MW direct drive offshore wind turbine at EWEA 2011 in Brussels this week.

GE has already signed a supply contract for the GW 4.1-113 offshore wind turbine to Göteborg Energi for installation in the harbour in Gothenburg, Sweden, in the second half of 2011.

“We are proud to announce the next milestone in our offshore strategy plan. Our 4.1-113 wind turbine represents our most advanced technology. It is the only direct-drive wind turbine designed specifically for offshore today,” says Victor Abate, Vice President Renewable Energy for GE Power & Water.

The offshore wind turbine has a modular design, which could ease in-situ repair and reduce need for large repair vessel.

GE says the offshore wind turbine builds on its 3.5 MW direct drive offshore wind turbine.
