REpower intros 3.2 MW wind turbine at EWEA

REpower Systems AG will introduce a 3.2 MW wind turbine with a hub height of 143 m at the European Wind Energy Association’s EWEA 2011 in Belgium this month.

The REpower 3.2M114 wind turbine with a 114 meter rotor diameter, is designed to utilise the potential of low-wind locations.

Matthias Schubert, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at REpower, says: "Especially in the European market, greater hub heights allow new sites to be developed. In Southern Germany, for example, significant unexploited potential still exists in hilly terrain and forested areas."

The wind turbine has a hybrid tower made of concrete and steel, and is erected in segments.

A prototype of the 3.2M114 wind turbine with a hub height of 93 m and a steel tube tower will be erected at the end of 2011.
