Suzlon reaches 5 GW of wind power in India

Suzlon Energy Ltd has reached 5 GW of cumulative wind power installations for over 1500 customers across 40 sites in 8 states in India.

Suzlon says it now accounts for nearly half of the country’s total wind installations.

In the states of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat, Suzlon’s wind power installation base is over 1 GW each.

Suzlon is India's largest wind turbine manufacturer and has 8 manufacturing facilities across the country.

Tulsi R Tanti, Chairman and Managing Director at Suzlon Energy, says: “In just over a decade, India’s wind market has grown from just around 50 MW per year to nearly 2000 MW per year, and we at Suzlon are proud to have led this.

“The 5000 MW milestone for us is a testimony of trust invested in us by all our stakeholders, including our customers, policymakers, regulatory commissions, nodal agencies, utilities, banks, vendors, shareholders and our employees. We thank them all and look forward to their continued support in building country’s backbone for sustainable low carbon economy, and at the same time, bringing energy security, rural development and also mitigating the impact of climate change.”

India has a target of 15% renewable electricity by 2020. The country already has 12 GW of wind installed, with a potential of 48 GW.
