GL Garrad Hassan manages offshore wind research platform

GL Garrad Hassan’s WINDTEST Kaiser Wilhelm Koog GmbH will manage the offshore wind research platform in the Baltic Sea, FINO 2.

GL Garrad Hassan has been appointed by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the Project Management Jülich (PtJ).

For the next three years GL Garrad Hassan will be responsible for the overall operations and maintenance of the offshore wind research platform.

The international renewable energy consultancy will also manage the research programme and associated technical data which will include various metrological and hydrological measurements, long term bird migration patterns and maritime traffic around the offshore wind platform.

The FINO 2 research and measuring platform in the Kriegers Flak area, 35 km north of the island of Rügen in Germany, delivers data for the offshore wind farms planned for the area.

Participants in the project include the research institute WIND-consult, the Institute for Applied Ecology (Institut für Angewandte Ökologie) and the Shipping Institute Warnemünde (Schifffahrtsinstitut Warnemünde).
