Total and GDF SUEZ consider solar investment solar

French oil company Total and energy company GDF SUEZ are considering investing in a silicium wafers plant serving the photovoltaic (PV) industry in the Moselle region of France.

The initial investment in the solar component plant is estimated at approximately €70 million. The project is still subject to approvals within both companies.

Total and GDF SUEZ are already partners in the solar industry through their common subsidiary Photovoltech, based in Tienen, Belgium, that produces PV cells based on crystalline silicon technology and of which they hold a 47.8% interest each.
