Intelligent Energy and Suzuki showcase fuel cell scooter in London

The Suzuki Burgman Fuel Cell Scooter has just made its European debut, ahead of initial fleet tests in the UK. Fuel cell developer Intelligent Energy and Suzuki Motor Corporation unveiled the fuel cell scooter at London’s City Hall this morning.

The event was opened by London’s Deputy Mayor, Kit Malthouse, who described the scooter as a ‘triumph of human ingenuity,’ and hoped that ‘Londoners will dump their 20th century motorcycles and buy one built for the 21st century.’ Malthouse is also Chair of the London Hydrogen Partnership.

First presented at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, the city-friendly Burgman Fuel Cell Scooter is the latest product of the highly successful partnership between UK-based Intelligent Energy and Suzuki in Japan. It builds on the success of the Crosscage fuel cell motorbike, unveiled by Intelligent Energy and Suzuki in 2007.

The Burgman Fuel Cell Scooter features the latest version of the unique Intelligent Energy air-cooled PEM fuel cell system. It is fueled from a hydrogen cylinder, which can be refilled in a few minutes. This gives a riding range of 350 km (220 miles), which is comparable to a conventional Burgman scooter.

Scooter demonstrations will take place at the new Intelligent Energy facility in Loughborough on Friday.
