The two turbines in County Tryone represent the next stage in Simple Power’s development strategy, as the company aims to install a minimum of 200 wind turbines across Northern Ireland over the next four years. 

Philip Rainey, Simple Power CEO, referred to the construction of the two new wind turbines in Tyrone as an important occasion, not only for Simple Power but for local farmers William McCrea and Noel McFarland, who have been able to turn a piece of their land into a reliable and sustainable source of income from wind energy for the next 20 years. “After the necessary investment of time, on site assessment, planning, construction and grid connection, we are delighted that these turbines are generating clean electricity for homes across Northern Ireland," he said. "We are very proud to be supporting the rural economy by enabling farmers like Noel and William to participate in renewable generation.” 

According to Rainey, Simple Power has already started exporting power from the turbines in Tyrone. The electricity generated feeds back into the Northern Ireland grid via a power purchase agreement with Power NI, the region’s biggest electricity retailer. Philip Carson, representing Power NI, said relationships with power providers like Simple Power "help us build on strong links with both the farming and agricultural sector and are pivotal in ensuring Northern Ireland has a more secure energy future.”
