Hydro Group offers “time-saving alternative” for subsea connections

Hydro Group plc will be presenting its new product for speeding up subsea connections within marine environments - the Hydro bond Renewable Connector (HRC) - at the BWEA31 renewable energy conference in Liverpool, taking place on 20-22 October.

Hydro Group managing director Doug Whyte, explained, “the key to future harnessing of offshore renewable energy is the ability to transfer it onshore and link it into the national grid. The HRC connects wave or tidal power generation units to heavy armoured seabed cables in a matter of days rather than the weeks it would have taken in the past”.

The Aberdeen-based company is a solutions provider within the subsea technology industry. Its first Hydro Bond Renewable Connector (HRC) was developed earlier in 2009, for up to 11kv operating voltages. The company says it plans to further develop the product for up to 33kv.
