NorthWind offshore wind farm in Belgium features innovative grouting system

216 MW project utilises full grouting package with a compressive strength of 180-200 MPa.

The NorthWind project, which began in Belgium at the end of March 2013, was performed by ITW Polymers Europe for GeoSea on board of the VOS Sympathy vessel.

ITW Polymers Europe provided the full grouting package utiliszing their UHPC product, Ducorit® D4. Features include a compressive strength of 200 MPa, which is critical for resisting fatigue. According to ITW Polymers, this marks the first time ITW Polymers Europe has supplied a full grouting package with the use of Ducorit® D4. Although 71 monopiles and one substation were grouted during this project, there is one monopole to be grouted.

The 216 MW project was developed by NorthWind NV and is located on the Bank Zonder Naam in the North Sea. When completed, the wind farm -- which utilises 72 Vestas V112 turbines -- will supply green power for 250,000 households in Belgium.
