wpd builds 36.8 MW wind farm in Croatia

wpd has signed a contract to build the 36.8 MW Ponikve wind farm 45 km north west of Dubrovnik, Croatia.

By Kari Williamson

The €45 million wind farm will consist of 16 Enercon E70 wind turbines, and is scheduled to go online in 2012.

wpd will erect 9 Enercon E70, 2.3 MW wind turbines with a hub height of 64 m and 7 wind turbines with a hub height of 85 m. Grid connection approval is already on hand already.

“Two weeks ago, works for the foundations began and the turbines will be on site in the spring of 2012; grid connection is set for the third quarter of the year. We are confident that we will be able to implement the extensive approvals in a short period of time so that we can put the turbines into operation until the end of next year,” says wpd CEO Dr. Hartmut Brösamle.

The project, which is wpd's third in Croatia, will be financed in cooperation with the KfW IPEX bank as well as with funds from the KfW programme for renewable energy.
