SunPower's solar CPV C7 Tracker lowers LCOE by 20%

SunPower Corp has launched the SunPower™ C7 Tracker for concentrating photovoltaics (CPV) solar systems said to lower the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) by up to 20% compared to competing technologies.

By Kari Williamson

The C7 Tracker combines single-axis tracking technology with rows of parabolic mirrors, reflecting light onto 22.8% efficient SunPower Maxeon™ solar cells.

The solar CPV tracker includes modular solar cell receivers allowing for future upgrades, and the SunPower Tracker Monitoring and Control System (TMAC), which provides wireless control of the solar CPV power plant.

SunPower says the C7 Tracker is suitable for regions with high solar irradiance through direct sunlight, including the US Southwest and areas of the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia.
