The purpose of the surveys is to understand where the various protected species and their habitats are located in relation to the cable works for the offshore wind farm. It is particularly important to know the locations of nesting grounds of the marsh harriers and badger setts prior to construction activities taking place, Thomson Ecology says.
Once the surveys are complete Thomson will develop and submit protected species licences, including ecological construction method statements. These will include areas to be avoided to ensure protected species and their habitats are undisturbed and timings of works on the offshore wind farm's cabling are scheduled to steer clear of seasonal issues such as wintering or breeding birds.
