Solaria Energía y Medio Ambiente has signed a strategic agreement to supply over 500 rooftop solar PV systems in Northumbria in the UK.

The systems will cover a range of power outputs starting at under 2 kW and going up to 10 kW (nominal power). They will be fitted to the roofs of hundreds of council houses and over 100 public buildings in a project funded by the county council. Any excess energy will be sold to the national grid.

The new agreement is part of Solaria's global expansion strategy. Solaria says there is a huge demand for solar PV systems on residential and industrial rooftop installations in the UK.

The Spanish company has significantly increased its sales in the international markets, especially in Germany and Italy, where it has sold over 25 MW of second generation solar photovoltaic modules since the beginning of 2011.

David Carrasco, Solaria’s Commercial Director, say: "Our entry in the UK market reflects its strategic commitment to continue company’s sales growth as a consequence of a firm internationalisation process with good expectations to the future. This is our first step into this market, where we are able to offer an efficient energy solution for distributed generation markets."
