The biogas plant, which is expected to cost £2 million, will use maize and whole-crop silage grown on the farm to produce 4.15 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity.

Stowell will sell the excess power from the biogas installation to the National Grid at £0.13/kWh, in addition to the current retail electricity price £0.03/kWh.

Additionally, the biogas plant will generate 3.55 GWh of surplus heat, which will be put to multiple uses including the supply of hot water to the community. The plant is expected to commence power generation by late summer.
