Operation Celtic Odyssey is a collaborative research programme aiming to assess the impact of tidal power on marine wildlife in the area around St David’s peninsula and the Ramsey Sound, which have been identified by the Welsh Assembly Government as a potential site for tidal energy generation. A pilot test project is due to start shortly.

Organised by the Low Carbon Research Institute, the aim is to develop protocols and guidelines for the sustainable development of tidal power off the Welsh coast.

The universities participating in the project are: Swansea, Cardiff, Swansea Metropolitan, Aberystwyth, Bangor and Pembrokeshire College.
