Concentrix Solar installs new tracking system in Concentrating PV (CPV) power plant

The installation of the FLATCON systems for the Spanish CPV power plant in Castilla-La Mancha is now complete.

A new tracking system, installed for the first time by Concentrix Solar, was implemented into Concentrix Solar’s concentrator power plant as part of the Instituto de Sistemas Fotovoltaicos de Concentracion (ISFOC) project in Puertollano, Spain. The tracking system comes from its partner and investor Abengoa Solar. The system was customised especially for use with FLATCON modules from Concentrix Solar. With this step, Concentrix Solar now has tracking systems from two different manufacturers which are qualified to be used with its highly efficient concentrator modules.

The tracking system from Abengoa Solar is characterised by an especially robust drive system and a high wind stiffness, the company claims. Previous to the present installation, Concentrix Solar successfully tested the tracker system in a demo system. In November 2008 Concentrix Solar installed a system at the Abengoa test field in Seville. ISFOC confirmed a nominal power of 13.3 kilowatts (kW) for the new tracking system in March 2009.

The successful customisation of the Abengoa tracker for use with FLATCON modules provides valuable experience and a further step towards the commercialisation of large CPV power stations, company sources maintain.
