LM Wind Power, which produces wind turbine blades, is kicking off a new global sustainability strategy as part of joining the UN Global Compact.

“We decided to ask ourselves some hard questions,” says Roland Sundén, CEO of LM Wind Power. “We have a long track record of contributing to producing green energy but are we really green enough? The answer was no.”

LM Wind Power is already compliant on the business ethics and humanitarian requirements of the UN Global Compact but its new corporate strategy renews commitments on safety, industrial hygiene, emissions, waste and all aspects of environmental impact.

“Improvements like this make good business sense. That is the core of our philosophy. For LM Wind Power, sustainability is not about philanthropy or making us look better than we are. It’s about confronting the environmental and social challenges we face in our business and achieving real change. We share this ambition with the other signatories to the UN Global Compact which we are honoured to join,” Sundén concludes.

UN Global Compact is a corporate voluntary initiative on sustainability with participation of more than 8000 businesses and organisations worldwide. By signing up to the UN Global Compact, an organisation commits to integrating the 10 universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, into its operations and day to day culture and submit an annual progress report – the CoP (Communication on Progress).
