Draka Offshore provides cable for Baltic 2 offshore wind farm

Draka Offshore will provide the array cabling for the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm in Germany from Visser & Smit Marine Contracting.

"The Baltic 2 project represents a continuation of our rapidly expanding business in the offshore renewable energy industry,'' says Martin Dale, Commercial Director for Subsea at Draka Offshore.

The Baltic 2 offshore wind farm cabling contract, valued at approximately €23 million, requires Draka to deliver approximately 95 km of 36 kV subsea power cable for use in the project.

The first delivery on the contract will take place the second quarter of 2012 and final delivery will take place first quarter of 2013.

Baltic 2

Located in the Western Baltic Sea, approximately 32 km north of Rugen Island, Baltic 2 will cover an area of approximately 27 km2. With its 80 offshore wind turbines, each rated at 3.6 MW, Baltic 2 will have a total capacity of 288 MW and is the second commercial offshore field being built in Germany.
