ABB to install 17 MW of solar PV in Italy

ABB will install four solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants in Sicily, Italy, totalling 17 MW under a US$27 million contract with Gestamp Solar.

The main 7.7 MW solar PV plant will be erected in Duccotto. The other three solar PV installations are: Francofonte (2.3 MW), Monreale (3.3 MW) and Sapeu (3.8 MW).

The solar PV plants are expected to be completed by the end of this year, and are forecasted to supply 27 GWh of power annually.

The solar PV power plants will deploy ABB’s modular eBoP (electrical balance of plant) concept based on pre-assembly and testing of the plant’s electrical systems prior to delivery.

The turnkey solar PV projects include design, engineering, supply and commissioning of the power plants, as well as the medium-voltage distribution link that will connect the plants to the grid. ABB will supply dry-type distribution transformers, medium- and low-voltage switchgear, protection devices and an advanced control system, with remote control and diagnostic capability, to optimise operations and efficiency.
