The Bosch Group entered the photovoltaics industry in 2008, when it acquired the Erfurt-based ersol group, now known as Bosch Solar Energy AG. It further expanded its solar photovoltaics (PV) operations in 2009 when securing majority stakes in Johanna Solar Technology GmbH and aleo solar AG, based in Oldenburg and Prenzlau, Germany.
Bosch Solar CISTech is a developer and manufacturer of thin-film solar modules based on copper, indium, gallium, sulphur and selenium (CIS/CIGSSe).
In the first expansion stage, the nominal capacity of the production plant in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany, is 30 MW.
