The biomass power plant will require around 700,000 tonnes of biomass feedstock per annum, a significant proportion of which will come through the Port of Southampton.
Adrian Bowles, Helius’ CEO, says: "Securing this site at Southampton for our proposed 100 MWe renewable energy power plant is an important addition to our strong portfolio of sites. This is a further step on the way to delivering Helius’ strategy to develop, own and operate a portfolio of biomass projects."
The contract with Associated British Ports for the site is subject to the securing of a Development Consent Order.
