Vancouver-based Ballard Power Systems has been awarded up to C$4.8 million (US$4.5 million) by Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), for a project to further develop its fuel cell power module technology for the transit bus market. Canadian-based Ballard Power Systems has acquired a controlling interest in Dantherm Power in Denmark, in a partnership with Danish co-investors Danfoss A/S and Dantherm A/S. The latest-generation 120 kW UTC Power fuel cell power plant is installed in an Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) bus operating in the Greater Oakland, California area.

The company sold a total of 445 fuel cell systems during 2009, and achieved revenues of US$6.6 million. IdaTech also received an order for 108 fuel cell systems at the end of 2009, for delivery and deployment in the first quarter of 2010.
